Complications of malaria
Some complications can occur in people with malaria, including:
1. severe anemia
This complication is caused by the fact that many red blood cells are destroyed or damaged (hemolysis) by malaria parasites.
2. Malaria of the brain
This complication occurs when blood cells are filled with parasites, blocking the small blood vessels in the brain. As a result, the brain becomes swollen or damaged. Symptoms include convulsions and coma.
3. Organ failure
Some organs can be disturbed by malaria parasites, including the kidneys, liver and spleen. This condition can endanger the patient's life.
4. Respiratory disorders
This complication occurs when fluid builds up in the lungs (pulmonary edema), making breathing difficult.
5. hypoglycemia
Severe malaria can cause hypoglycemia or hypoglycemia. Very low blood glucose can cause coma or even death.
