Know the Types of Scaly Skin Types and their Causes
Basically, there are several causes of flaky skin and squamous skin types. The following is the full explanation.
What causes scaly skin?
Normally, your body secretes about 30,000 to 40,000 skin cells every day and replaces them with new ones. You don't feel skin cells grow and don't see them replaced or peeled.
The outer layer of your skin contains a mixture of dead skin cells and natural oils that help retain water. If this layer is damaged and water vapor comes out or if your skin cell regeneration process opens incorrectly, you can become scaly.
Aging, sun exposure and corrosive chemicals, some drugs and some diseases can also cause scaly skin.
Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis)
If you or your child has reddish, scaly patches that are very annoying, it can be eczema. This common condition is often confused with dry and sensitive skin. Infants and children usually suffer from eczema on the chin and cheeks, but scaly skin can appear on any part of the body.
Eczema hands can dry out, thicken and inflam the skin of your palms and fingers. The skin can become hot and even bleed.
Eczema in children will disappear by itself. But adults who have never experienced it can also be reached as adults.
Doctors do not know the exact cause of eczema. They suspect that eczema is a mixture of genetics and other elements of your environment that react to your skin, like
- wool
- Bath soap
- perfume
- dressing
- chlorine
- Cigarette smoke
You can see the following symptoms of eczema:
- Red or swollen skin
- His skin looks hardened
- Scaly skin that feels rough
- Severe itching
Psoriasis
Scales that cover reddish and thick skin with prominent skin spots are signs of plaque psoriasis. Doctors suspect that psoriasis is the cause of a damaged immune system.
New skin cells grow faster than usual, but old skin cells are not replaced. Old and new cells accumulate, causing itching, sores and dandruff.
Psoriasis can appear on the knees, scalp, elbows, palms, lower back, and soles of the feet. This condition can also cause your nails to break. Psoriasis is inherited from the family and is not a contagious disease.
Diaper dermatitis
Red, irritated or scaly skin on the bottom of your baby may be caused by diaper dermatitis, also known as diaper rash. This general condition is usually seen in infants aged 9-12 months.
Diaper rash appears around the groin and genitals, which is also a diaper covered area.
Diaper rash is a type of scaly skin that is caused by allergies or irritated skin. Signs of diaper rash include rashes that irritate redness.
Diaper rash does not require special treatment, but if your baby's diaper rash does not go away, talk to your doctor about the best causes and treatments.
Seborrheic dermatitis
This skin disorder is the most common cause of dandruff. White and oily dandruff on the hair, shoulders and sometimes itchy scalp are common signs of dandruff.
If you suffer from seborrheic dermatitis, the scalp and surrounding skin will be oily and yellow or white scaly. You can even find chips on your eyebrows. This type of dandruff can also affect the skin behind the ear and next to the nose.
