Skin tumors are not always malignant, know the type
It's no exaggeration to recommend all of us to use sunscreen, especially during sun-exposed activities. Be it women or men, using sunscreen is not just about self-care. In addition, this is an important protection against the risk of skin tumors.
Skin tumors are created when there are genetic mutations in healthy skin cells. Varied types, may be safe for the devil. Judging from its shape, skin tumors look like hard mass on the skin which continues to grow slowly.
Malignant tumors on the skin are usually irregular in shape and the edges are unclear and different. In general, skin tumors affect the elderly. However, most skin tumors are harmless. Very rarely, this tumor can develop into skin cancer.
Types of skin tumors
There are many types of skin tumors, including:
Moles are a type of skin tumor that is similar to moles
1. a mole
A type of skin tumor similar to a mole. This mole comes from the activity of melanocytes, the skin cells responsible for pigment formation. Most moles do not cause problems, but melanoma tends to develop in people with many moles.
Edges are another thing that distinguishes ordinary moles from moles associated with skin tumors. If the edges are rough or the edges merge with the surrounding skin, this can be a symptom of melanoma.
2. Seborrheic keratosis
The next type of skin tumor is seborrheic keratosis which is characterized by brown or black patches with an uneven texture. To the touch, the surface of the skin usually hardens.
Hemangiomas can also be called strawberry spots
3. hemangiomas
Another name for a hemangioma skin tumor is a strawberry stain. This name is inspired by the reddish bump color. Usually, hemangiomas develop on the baby's skin.
This red wood can be seen on the neck, chest, face, scalp, and back of children under 18 months. Usually, this hemangioma will be observed in infancy until several months later.
Later, hemangiomas will disappear by themselves when children reach the age of 5 to 10 years. Hemangioma scars will leave a different color from the surrounding skin.
4. lipoma
Then, a lipoma is a mass of fat that grows slowly and can move when pressed with a finger. About 5 cm in size and can grow
Lipomas usually belong to the elderly (40 to 60 years) and are safe. Even in many people, lipomas don't need to be treated. However, if the lipoma causes pain and discomfort, it is better to remove it.
Another feature of lipoma is that it can grow anywhere in the human body. Lipomas usually appear on skin folds such as clothing, neck, back, arms and thighs.
Few people know, warts are also included in skin tumors
5. warts
Other types of skin tumors are warts or warts. The shape is small with a rough texture. The color of the wart is like skin or brown.
Warts appear as an infectious reaction to the human pappiloma virus (HPV) that attacks the skin. When this happens, keratin production will tend to be excessive. Keratin is a protein that plays a role in organizing hair and nails. In the case of excessive keratin accumulation, there is a new formation of skin texture, namely warts.
Noteworthy is that these warts are easily transmitted through direct contact with the patient's skin. If a person's body in contact tends to be weak, the HPV virus can infect other people.
When can a skin tumor become skin cancer?
As mentioned above, skin tumors are usually benign and may not necessarily develop into skin cancer. Cancer will only occur when the body's cells mutate uncontrollably.
However, skin cancer can look like uneven bumps on the surface of the skin. As the cancer develops, the size of the mass will change and penetrate more and more into the layers of the skin.
Skin cancer develops at 3 skin levels, namely:
- Squamous: flat cells in the outer layer of the epidermis.
- Basal cells: cells located under the epidermis. These cells are constantly forming new cells to replace the skin in the epidermis. When these cells reach the epidermis, they become even and scaly.
- Melanocytes: These cells are responsible for the production of a brown pigment called melanin, which plays a role in determining the color of the skin. Melanin is the body's natural protector against the negative effects of the sun. This is why, when a person is sunbathing often, his skin will look darker.
Skin tumors or skin cancer can be easily detected because they are in the visible area. This is why everyone should observe slight skin changes.
If a new network develops, discover its characteristics. As long as it's not dangerous, there's no problem. But if you continue to get fat, bleed and cause pain, you should consult an expert.
