This antibiotic combination is an effective drug against leprosy

Leprosy often causes disability and stigma in people with the disease. Even if detected early and treated quickly, the disease will heal without a trace. Here's how to cure leprosy with leprosy medicine and complete treatment.

The development of leprosy is slow because it can last for decades. However, during this period, complications can cause physical disability.

What are the types of leprosy and how do they work?

Leprosy can be cured by using a combination of drugs called ART. Antibiotics aim to destroy the bacteria that causes leprosy and are given in combination to prevent bacterial resistance to drugs. The combination of drugs depends on the type of leprosy, which is multi-bacillary or bacillus pausi.

People with many bacilli have more than five white lesions on their skin. With a spread, the doctor can detect the presence of bacteria on the skin of this type of leprosy. During this time, Bacillus pausi causes up to five lesions on the patient's skin, without the presence of leprosy bacteria.

Multi-bacillary can be treated with a combination of rifampicin, clofazimine, and dapsone. This combination of drugs must be consumed for at least 12 months. Meanwhile, the combination of leprosy drugs for Bacillus pausi is rifampicin and dapsone, which must be consumed for at least 6 months. Healing leprosy requires a long time and must be resolved so that the disease is no longer contagious.

Leprosy has several side effects. Rifampicin usually causes redness in the urine. Clofazimine causes skin discoloration that darkens and dries the skin.

Side effects in the form of skin discoloration do not cause serious medical problems other than those that can affect appearance. Changes in skin color will begin to appear in the third month of drug use and will appear very clearly within one year. Skin conditions will return to normal one year after stopping drug use. However, if these side effects are very annoying, you can tell your doctor.

Ichthyosis or very dry skin as a side effect of clofazimine can cause dermatitis in some leprosy patients. Therefore, during the treatment period, patients are advised to moisturize the skin regularly by applying petroleum jelly or natural moisturizing oils.

Stiff and short finger muscles can be cured with surgery. Likewise, interference with the ability to blink. However, loss of limbs and blindness due to leprosy complications will be a permanent disability for former lepers.

Symptoms and transmission of leprosy
Leprosy is indeed a contagious disease. However, transmission is not as easy as the flu. Transmission occurs if there is prolonged close contact with an untreated leprosy sufferer.

Bacteria can be spread by splashing (dripping) bodily fluids from the mouth and nose of sufferers of the disease. This is why leprosy is often transmitted to members of the same family or household.

The initial symptoms of leprosy are not very clear and do not cause many complaints, so they are often ignored. Some of the early symptoms of leprosy include:

  • White spots such as mucus appear on the skin without itching or pain
  • The skin loses its touch function, loses the ability to feel pain, temperature and touch.
  • Tingling or numb sensation in the hands and feet
  • Dry eyes due to impaired blinking ability

If these initial symptoms are ignored, the disease will continue to develop slowly. Infection can cause complications because the patient cannot feel pain if an open wound develops. Complications that cause disability are not caused by bacteria but by peripheral nerve lesions.

When the peripheral nerves are damaged and the skin losing the ability to feel excitatory, skin glands and hair follicles will die. The skin becomes dry, cracked and open sores appear. This infection will repeatedly damage body tissue, muscles, and bones of the hands, feet, and face, resulting in permanent disability and disability.

Treatment can indeed cure leprosy and stop damage to limbs caused by complications. How to cure leprosy with leprosy drugs is very effective. People can get medicines for free at the health center. However, existing damage or defects cannot be recovered with medication.
