Prevention of Dengue Fever

Dengue fever causes dengue shock syndrome can be prevented with a vaccine against dengue fever. This vaccine is given to children aged 9-16 years, 3 times with a distance of 6 months. This vaccine is not recommended for children under 9 years, because it can increase the risk of severe dengue fever, especially in the 2-5 years age group.

a vaccine against dengue contains four virus serotypes. Therefore, this vaccine is still given to children who have been infected. This is to build immunity against various types of dengue virus children.

In addition to vaccines, dengue can be prevented by PSN (eradication of mosquito breeding). PSN is fumigation of two insecticides or fogging. The second fumigation will be conducted one week after the first fumigation to kill mosquito larvae that cannot be eradicated during the first fumigation.

Another PSN method is to regularly run 3M-Plus, especially during the rainy season. 3M stages, namely:

• Drain the water tank, like a bath or toren, at least every week.
• closed tank.
• Recycling of goods where Aedes aegypti has potential breeding grounds.

Also, make every step again to help prevention. Stepping, among others, by holding enough light at home, installing mosquito nets in the house ventilation, sprinkled with larvaside (Abate) in water tanks that are difficult to drain, using mosquito nets while sleeping, mosquito plants and stop the habit of hanging clothes. Another way to prevent mosquito bites is to avoid areas prone to infection.

Keep in mind, mosquitoes can penetrate tight clothing. Therefore, it is recommended to wear loose clothing. As additional protection, use mosquito lotions, especially those containing N-diethylmetatoluamide (DEET). However, although it is relatively effective, do not use DEET in infants under 2 years.
