The pieces on the back can vary in size, texture and shape. Usually, this mass is not dangerous if the size is not large or if it is not accompanied by other complaints.
There are many things that cause lumps in the back, ranging from infections, allergic reactions, skin problems, to more serious illnesses, such as cancer.

Causes of a lump in the back
Lumps on the back are not always dangerous. However, if its size changes in appearance, expands rapidly and causes pain, it is advisable to consult a doctor immediately.

Some conditions that can cause a bump on the back include:
  • lipoma
Lipomas are lumps under the skin, which contain adipose tissue. In addition to the back, lipomas can also develop in other parts of the body, such as the neck and shoulders. Lipomas develop very slowly and are not dangerous. The uniqueness of this mass is that it is soft to the touch, colorless and generally painless.
Lipome lumps can be removed if they interfere with appearance or cause pain throughout the body. How to get rid of it is by surgical removal of the lipoma. In addition to surgery, liposuction (liposuction) procedures can also be performed to remove this fat tumor.
  • Seborrheic keratosis
Seborrheic keratosis looks like a wart or black spot on the skin. This mass is round and looks rough on the skin. The back, shoulders and chest are the areas where siboroic kerotosis usually occurs. Seborrheic keratosis nodules are benign, but sometimes can look like skin cancer. Therefore, a biopsy is needed to ensure that the mass is not cancerous.
Generally, this mass is painless and does not require special treatment. Lumps are only removed if there are irritations or appearance disorders.
  • Dermatofibroma
This is the part of the skin that usually appears on the legs, arms and upper back. Its size tends to be small, around 0.5-1 cm. Dermatofibroma may be reddish, pink or brownish. This mass is painless and generally does not interfere.
The doctor can remove it with a small operation or use a laser. However, as long as the size is small and does not interfere, no special care is needed.
  • Keratosis Pilaris
The pieces behind this type appear brown or red (similar to thorny heat) and rough to the touch. In addition to the back, hair keratosis can also occur on the cheeks and buttocks.
Sometimes keratosis pilaris masses can be inflamed, especially in pregnant women or people with dry skin. However, keratosis pilaris generally does not cause problems and does not require medical treatment, unless its size is considered to impede appearance. To get rid of it, you can take a shower with warm water or use a cream that contains urea or lactic acid.
  • Squamous cyst
Squamous cysts are benign masses that develop under the skin. These cysts are usually caused by the accumulation of keratin, a natural protein found in skin cells.
Besides appearing as a bump on the back, epidermoid cysts can also appear on the chest, around the genitals or in other areas of the body. The uniqueness of this epidermoid cyst is that it is dark in color, has round air and contains white fluid like pus. Once infected, epidermoid cysts redden, ooze pus and are painful to the touch.
The doctor will give antibiotics if the cyst has been infected. This type of cyst must be removed completely with surgery. Otherwise, the epidermoid cyst can be reformed.

Don't panic if you find a bump in the back, because most are harmless. However, see a doctor immediately if a lump in the back hurts, hinders appearance, or grows and multiplies rapidly.
