Causes of prostate cancer

The cause of prostate cancer is a genetic change or mutation of prostate cells. This mutation causes the abnormal development of these cells and the formation of cancer cells. However, the cause of this mutation itself is not known with certainty.

Several factors can increase the risk of prostate cancer, namely:

  • age
The risk of prostate cancer will increase with age. Most sufferers of this cancer are men aged over 65 years.

  • obesity
A person who is obese has a greater risk of developing more aggressive prostate cancer.

  • Family health history
If a family member has prostate cancer, the risk of developing prostate cancer increases.

  • Eating model
It is thought that eating foods high in calcium increases the risk of prostate cancer.

  • Exposure to chemicals
Chemicals, such as cadmium compounds, can increase the risk of prostate cancer. Cadmium is a metal compound found in cigarettes and certain types of food, such as red meat, fish, and wheat.

  • Sexually transmitted disease
Some types of sexually transmitted diseases, such as gonorrhea and chlamydia, can cause inflammation of the prostate and cause prostate cancer.

  • vasectomy
Vasectomy or the action of sterilization in humans can affect prostate function, so the risk of prostate cancer is higher.
