Heart Valve Disease
Heart valve disease occurs because the valve in the heart is not functioning normally. The heart has four valves that function to regulate the flow of blood flowing in the right direction. This disease causes the valve not to close and open, causing blood flow to become abnormal.
Symptoms of this disease depend on the severity. Symptoms caused by this disease are:
complications
This disease causes problems to other organs, namely:
regurgitation
This is a condition where the heart valves don't close completely, called prolapse.
stenosis
This is a condition where the heart valve becomes thick and stiff from the valve decreases, which results in reduced blood flow through the valve.
atresia
This is a condition in which the heart valves and other tissues do not form a block of blood flow between the chambers of the heart.
The heart has four mitral valves, tricuspid valves, pulmonary and aortic valves that maintain blood flow in the right direction. Each valve has flaps (leaflets or valves) that open and close. This disease causes the valve does not open or close to normal so that blood flow is disrupted. One of the causes of heart valve disease is birth defects (congenital), but it does not rule out the possibility that adults have illnesses caused by infections or congenital heart defects.
risk factor
Usually, doctors do a physical examination as hearing the heartbeat and lungs using a stethoscope. If the doctor feels abnormal heart rhythms and lungs, will make further investigations, such as:
Electrocardiogram (ECG)
Is one of the experiments to show the electrical activity of the heart is used to assess the rate of heart beat.
echocardiography
A test to evaluate valves and chambers using sound waves.
cardiac catheterization
A test to diagnose and evaluate heart, blood vessels and heart valve disorders using a small tube that has a camera. This greatly helps the doctor to determine the type and level of valvular heart disease.
imaging test
A test to assess the heart and see if there is a change of heart. This test can describe the most detailed liver conditions and help the doctor diagnose and determine the best treatment. Imaging tests that your doctor may recommend are X-ray and MRI.
treadmill stress test
Used to provide information on the severity of heart conditions and see the extent of the influence of symptoms caused.
Symptoms of this disease depend on the severity. Symptoms caused by this disease are:
- hard to breathe
- heart palpitations
- feeling tired
- breast pain
- dizzy easily
- passed out
- headache
- cough
- Swelling in the stomach
- There is fluid in the lungs
