The first stage of labor is normal

The first delivery phase can last up to 20 hours. This step is marked by opening the neck and ending when the cervix is fully open, with a width of about 10 cm.

When the cervix dilates from 0 to 3 or 4 cm, contractions increase with time. It starts with mild contractions that occur every 15 to 20 minutes and lasts for 60 to 90 seconds.

These contractions will occur periodically until less than 5 minutes by contraction. This process is called the latent phase.

The active phase occurs when the cervix expands between 4 and 8 cm, the contraction will last about 45 seconds with a distance of about 3 minutes per contraction.

This phase is usually accompanied by vaginal bleeding and back pain. When you go through this phase, you must do the following:

Then you will pass the transition phase. At this stage, the cervix will enlarge 8 to 10 cm and will usually be accompanied by a membrane rupture.

In this phase, you will experience a contraction of about 1 minute and the distance between contractions is about 2 to 3 minutes.

Pressure on the rectum will occur, back pain will get worse and the volume of vaginal bleeding will increase. The key, set your breath and relax and immediately go to the hospital.

The second stage of normal childbirth

The second stage of delivery begins when the cervix is fully dilated, which is 10 cm. This labor phase lasts until the baby enters the genital tract, vagina, until birth.

This step can take two hours or more. In contrast to the first delivery stage, contractions slow down by a distance of 2 to 5 minutes and last for about 60 to 90 seconds.

You will feel a strong push until the baby comes out. Use the interval between pulses to rest and execute orders according to medical staff's orders. To get through this labor phase, follow these tips:

  • Try a number of positions, such as squatting or lying on your side, legs facing up.
  • Take a deep breath before and after the contraction.
  • Push as hard as you can as instructed by medical staff.

When a baby is born, the baby will be held upside down to prevent the amniotic fluid, mucus, and blood from entering the lungs. After that, the umbilical cord will be broken.

The third stage of labor is normal

The third phase of labor begins after the baby is born and ends when the placenta separates from the uterine wall and comes out through the vagina. This stage is often called giving birth after birth. This is the shortest step of the work which only lasts about 20 minutes. You will feel the contractions but not too painful.
