Know the process of blood clotting

Know the process of blood clotting
When injuries occur, blood vessels can be damaged and bleeding occurs. To stop bleeding, our body activates a series of blood clotting and healing processes.
The body's mechanism to stop bleeding is called hemostasis. This mechanism has several important phases, including the phase of platelet blocking (blood clotting) and the blood clotting phase. The process of blood clotting or blood clotting is a complex process in which blood clots (clots) cover and heal wounds and stop bleeding.

The elements of the blood clotting process

The process of blood clotting will not occur without the "actor" playing a role. Coagulation involves platelets and a component of coagulation factors.
  • platelets
Platelets or blood fragments are disc-shaped elements in the blood. Platelets are classified as blood cells, but platelets are actually part of bone marrow cells called megakaryocytes. Platelets play a role in the formation of blood clots to slow or stop bleeding and healing wounds.
  • Coagulation factor (clotting factor)
The clotting factor is protein, mainly produced by the liver. There are 13 coagulation factors in the blood and tissues of the human body.

What is the process of blood clotting?

The process of normal blood clotting through a series of complex interactions. Then the blood clotting process appears from the beginning to the end.

  • Platelets form a blockage
Platelets react when blood vessels are damaged or injured. They stick to the walls of the injured area and together form a blockage. Blockages form to cover the damaged part, to prevent blood from coming out. Platelets also release chemicals to attract more platelets and other cells to move to the next stage.

  • Blood clots
Coagulation factors signal to each other to produce a fast chain reaction. This reaction is known as the coagulation cascade. In the final stages of this cascade, a clotting factor called thrombin converts fibrinogen into fibrin strands. Fibrin works by sticking to platelets to create a net that traps more platelets and cells. Clumps also become stronger and more durable.

  • End of blood clotting process
After the formation of blood clots and control of bleeding. Other proteins stop the clotting factor, so the clot does not continue for longer than needed.

  • The body slowly removes blockages
When damaged skin tissue heals, automatic blockages are no longer needed. The strands of fibrin are destroyed and the blood recovers platelets and cells from blood clots.

Abnormalities of the process of blood clotting
If the process of blood clotting is abnormal, there may be excessive bleeding or, conversely, excessive clotting can interfere with blood flow. Not everyone experiences a normal process of blood clotting. Some people may have abnormalities in the process of blood clotting, such as hemophilia, without the presence of coagulation factors VIII or IX. In this disease, bleeding that occurs is difficult to stop.

Blood clots can also form even if they are not needed. This condition can cause serious medical problems such as heart attack, pulmonary embolism and stroke. Therefore, to prevent the development of abnormal blood clots, it is advisable to be diligent in moving and exercising, not smoking, and adopting a healthy lifestyle.

If there are problems such as bruising, if it is difficult to stop bleeding when there is an injury, frequent nosebleeds or if there are bruises on the joints, it is possible that you have problems with blood clots. If there are complaints, it is advisable to consult a doctor.
