Mumps treatment for children at home

Mumps is a contagious disease that often attacks children. Parents need to know how to care for them so that they can beat mumps quickly in children.

  • Make sure children consume lots of water. The goal is to prevent dehydration due to fever.
  • Compress swollen gland areas with hot or cold compresses to relieve pain.
  • Make sure the child has enough rest.
  • Give children soft foods that are easy to swallow, such as porridge or soup.
  • Avoid giving children sour foods or drinks, such as orange juice, lemon or pineapple, because this can worsen the pain.

In addition to mumps treatment in children, it is no less important to know its prevention, including the administration of MMR vaccine (mumps, measles, rubella). Children can be vaccinated starting 15 months.

Although rare, mumps can cause serious disorders, such as inflammation of the testicles (orchitis), inflammation of the pancreas and inflammation of the lining of the brain. Therefore, if treatment at home does not cure mumps in children, see your doctor immediately.
