Definition of Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a place of tissue compilation that forms the uterine wall to develop outside the uterus. This tissue, called the endometrium, can develop in the ovaries, intestines, fallopian tubes (oviducts), vagina or in the rectum (end of the intestine connected to the anus).

Before menstruation, the endometrium will thicken to repair the fertilized egg. When not pregnant, the endometrium is destroyed and then leaves the body as menstrual blood.
