Polypeptide antibiotics

Polypeptide antibiotics are a class of drugs commonly used to treat skin infections caused by bacteria. This antibiotic is useful for treating bacterial infections of Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa or Acinetobacter sp.

Polypeptide antibiotics act by interfering with the action of the outer layer of bacterial cells, so that bacterial growth is inhibited and deadly. Polypeptide antibiotics are divided into three types, namely:

  • Bacitracin
  • Colistin
  • Polymyxin B.
