Reducing air pollution in cities

There are several ways you can do to reduce pollution in cities, especially air pollution. At present, air quality in many cities in the world does not meet world health standards, including cities in Indonesia.

Knowing the dangers of pollution in cities must be increased because air pollution can pose health risks for residents developing respiratory problems and other crowd health problems

To minimize air pollution in the city, you can make changes regarding behavior, such as:

  • Moving from a private vehicle to public transportation.

Pollution and congestion occurs because most private vehicles on the road are filled by one person. With the passage of private vehicles to public transportation, there will be a little smoke that pollutes the air.

  • Cycling or walking.

Cycling and walking are convenient ways to travel short distances without pollution and are also healthy. However, when walking or biking it is advisable to avoid road traffic mobility, especially during rush hour.

  • Close the vehicle window.

To fight air pollution in your car, keep windows closed properly when on a busy road.

  • Avoid pollution-causing fumes.

Maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you especially if the vehicle in front of the diesel truck fumes pollutes the air. If you are behind a vehicle like this, stop and let them briefly get away from you.

  • Vehicle engine maintenance.

Take care of the vehicle you have. Therefore, vehicles that are not well maintained are at higher risk of air pollution around them. Remember, air pollution might even be in the vehicle.

  • Avoid driving during peak hours.

If there is a need that is not too urgent, avoid traveling at peak times to minimize exposure to pollution. If you have to go out during rush hour, it is advisable to choose a road that is not too crowded with a number of traffic lights that tend to be less.
Prevents air pollution at home

In addition to changes in driving, to prevent air pollution, you can also do simple things at home to fight indoor air pollution, and create fresher air:

  • Make a garden or garden at home.

Gardening at home (urban agriculture) can make the air around the house cool. To overcome the limitations of space, plants must not be planted in the soil environment, but also in the hydroponic system. If everyone does this, the air quality in the city must be improved.

  • No smoking inside the house.

Make your home smoke free. Because cigarette smoke contains at least 4,000 chemicals that pollute the air memu. Besides causing pollution, cigarette smoke can also increase a child's risk of ear infections, respiratory tract, asthma, sudden infant death syndrome and cancer or (SIDS)

In addition, there are several ways to reduce pollution in the house.

If the simple methods above are done regularly by all pollution in the city, especially air pollution, decrease slowly. So, breathing fresh air and breathing easier in an hour or leaving the home office is no longer impossible.
