9 Types of Hearing Tests to Check for Ear Disorders
Besides vision, another important thing is hearing. Hearing loss is often associated with older people. Age-related hearing loss or presbycusis often occur in older people.

However, hearing tests still need to be done by all ages. In addition to hearing problems, a hearing test can help diagnose the possibility of certain health problems.

Hearing tests can also help provide appropriate care to prevent hearing loss from becoming worse if you have been diagnosed with hearing loss.

9 types of hearing tests

The hearing test consists of different types and each test measures different things. Here are some hearing tests that are usually done:
1. Speech perception test
During this hearing test, you will be asked to wear headphones and listen to the sentence. When you listen to something, you have to press a button or raise your hand.
2. Staphometry

Tympanometry tests the middle ear, which includes the eardrum and three small bones that connect the eardrum and the inner ear.

Tympanometry can check the fluid behind the eardrum. This test is done by placing a small instrument in your ear.
3. Stapedial reflexes and reflex decay

This hearing test is used to determine whether something is blocking the transmission of sound signals in the auditory nerve of the brain.
4. Rinne-Weber Test

This hearing test uses a 512 Hz tuning fork to determine how you respond to sounds and vibrations around the ear.
5. Tone audiometry

This hearing test is similar to the speech perception test. However, you will only listen for different sounds, not phrases.
6. TEN test (noise equalization threshold)
A hearing test used to detect "dead zones" or parts of the sound in the ear that cannot respond to sound. With this test, the doctor can adjust the hearing aid used.
7. Evaluate the response of the brain stem

Hearing assessment that can determine whether there are obstacles or disorders of the nerves that deliver sound from the inner ear to the brain.

This evaluation involves placing electrodes in the ear canal and your head which, when turned on, will produce a short crack.
8. Autoacoustic Emissions

Hearing test that measures otoacoustic emission or normal acoustic signals produced by the inner ear. This signal can appear without acoustic stimulation or in the case of acoustic stimulation.

This hearing test has the function of checking whether the outer hair cells located inside the ear can function properly or not.

Acoustic signals are measured and analyzed by placing the microphone in an open channel.
9. NAS test (sentence in noise)
Hearing tests are conducted to determine whether you can use hearing aids in noisy situations and what types of hearing aids are needed.

Therefore, this test assesses your understanding of the conversation in noisy conditions.

Then, your test results will be compared with those who have no trouble hearing conversations in noisy conditions.
