Come on, Check the Heart from Now!
The heart is one of the most important organs that functions to pump blood throughout the body. If the heart is disturbed, then all organs of the body can be affected.
Who needs a heart check?
Everyone, even healthy ones, however, must be regularly checked and have heart health as soon as possible. In addition, in cases of high risk for heart failure, such as:
- Has a high level of history of cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes.
- Overweight or obese.
- At the age of 65.
- Have bad eating habits, such as foods often foods high in fat, cholesterol and salt.
- Rarely exercise.
- often smoke or consume alcoholic beverages.
In addition to the questions above, stress can often increase the risk of heart problems. If you have one or more of these risk factors, you will see a doctor right away.
Why do people need every heart audit?
According to data collected by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2016, there are around 18 million people worldwide who have died of cardiovascular disease (heart and blood vessels). About 85% of them are caused by heart attacks and strokes.
According to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death in Indonesia. About 13% of deaths are caused by untreated heart disease.
Therefore, heart health checked as soon as possible is very important, so that heart failure can be known from the start. Thus, treatment can be done immediately.
Various types of HEART examinations
Heart conditions can basically be evaluated by a series of tests, including physical examination of the heart, blood pressure control, and test support. Supporting heart examination tests include:
1. cardiac exercise testing
Heart reviews are usually done on a treadmill. Therefore, this test is also called the treadmill test. A heart exercise test is to determine whether the heart is able to pump blood efficiently when the body needs more oxygen, such as during exercise or undergoing intense physical activity.
This test can also detect whether symptoms such as chest pain when the body experiences physical activity or sports. In general, this examination is to assess the ability of the heart.
2. Cholesterol Test
Cholesterol tests are done by taking blood samples for further examination in the laboratory. Before the examination, patients are usually asked to fast for 8-12 hours.
If you are 20 years old and do not suffer from certain diseases, you need to check your cholesterol levels at least every five years. But if you have a history of diabetes, high cholesterol, stroke, heart disease, hypertension and obesity, do regular cholesterol screening as recommended by your doctor.
3. Electrocardiogram (ECG)
This is to test the electrical activity of the heart. In the electrical activity of heart abnormalities can signal heart rhythm disorders or arrhythmias. In addition, an electrocardiogram is also used to detect possible heart attacks.
4. echocardiography
Echocardiography is an examination to see the condition of muscles and heart valves using ultrasound. This procedure is often used for the diagnosis of endocarditis, abnormal heart valves and congenital heart disease, and to see if there is fluid in the membrane covering the heart stack.
5. Angiography and cardiac catheterization
Angiography and cardiac catheterization are often needed if the doctor suspects problems with the heart muscle, valves or arteries.
In addition to examinations, catheterization is often used as a treatment procedure, for example, to destroy a blockage in the heart's blood vessels, dilate a blocked blood vessel, or repair a damaged heart valve.
6. CT scan of the heart
CT scan of the heart which is also known as coronary calcium scan is a liver screening procedure to detect plaque (atherosclerosis) that can be contained in the heart arteries.
Knowing how many plaques in the arteries, doctors can predict what disorders will appear and prepare appropriate responses.
7. Heart MRI
An MRI or magnetic imaging reasoning machine produces images of the heart in detail, so doctors can carefully examine the condition of the heart. MRI is used if there are suspected problems in the size of the heart, thickness and movement of the heart muscle and blood vessels of the heart.
Maintaining heart health must be done from a young age. In addition to conducting routine checks, you must also adopt a healthy lifestyle. Now diligently exercising, multiply the consumption of fruits and vegetables, and limit foods high in cholesterol, fat and salt.
If you are used to cooking with oil, try using oils that are more heart-friendly, such as canola oil.
This oil contains very little saturated fat but is high in healthy fats (unsaturated fats). In addition, canola oil also contains omega-3 fatty acids which are good for heart and brain health. good fat is even said to be higher than cooking oil.
For testing or heart check-ups, you should consult a cardiologist. In addition to determining the type and schedule of cardiac examinations, your doctor will recommend the type of diet and exercise that suits your needs.
